Maxim Integrated Products Launches MAX9635 Digital Ambient Light Sensor

Manufacturer of semiconductor solutions, Maxim Integrated Products has released a new digital ambient light sensor (ALS) that features an adaptive gain block. The MAX9635 is suitable for light-intensity monitoring applications, digital lighting-management systems, TVs, smartphones, and notebooks and tablet PCs.

The MAX9635 incorporates Maxim’s BiCMOS technology and includes an ADC, two photodiodes, and digital features within a 2x2 mm package. The optical ALS consumes minimum power and extends the operating life of the battery. In addition, the sensor offers a dynamic range of 4,000,000 to 1 for accurate lux readings across all ambient-light environments.

The digital ambient light sensor saves space due to a compact enclosure and delivers an efficient performance. In addition, ambient-light sensing enhances the display performance. The ALS systems allow system designers to fine-tune the display brightness automatically with respect to the amount of ambient light.
