GAO Tek Releases 6413 Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer

Developer of telecommunication testers, GAO Tek has introduced a new Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) for use in the maintenance, construction, and manufacture of optical networks.

The 6413 OTDR is suitable for locating breaks and faults and measuring transmission, connection, or unit loss in optical fibers.

6413 OTDR

The sturdy OTDR provides an identification range of 1.6 to 512 km, as well as writes and reads files in the Bellcore GR196 file format. The 6413 optical time-domain reflectometer has a dynamic range from 42 to 40 dB, pulse widths of 10 to 20,480 ns, a sample resolution of 0.1 m with 65k sampling points, and a short event dead zone of 1.6 m. The high dynamic range enables precise signal processing.

When fully charged, the reflectometer operates for eight hours and displays the battery levels accordingly. The device sends data to a PC through a parallel or serial interface, and provides a USB interface to transmit data. In addition, the OTDR comes with UPC and FC connectors for selection.
