AUO, Evonik Collaborate to Develop Solar, Lighting and Green Energy Solutions

AU Optronics (AUO) and Evonik Industries have collaborated to utilize their expertise in the green energy, lighting and solar markets. Under the terms of the non-exclusive agreement, both companies will focus on manufacturing, production planning and research and development of lighting, solar and green energy solutions.

Both companies have been working in the joint venture of Evonik Forhouse Optical Polymers (EFOP) that involves the operation of an acrylic polymer manufacturing plant for the TFT-LCD market. The joint venture is trying to double the PMMA capacity to around 85 kilotons.

Evonik Degussa’s Chairman of the Board of Management, Patrik Wohlhauser remarked that the company is impressed with AUO’s manufacturing process management and abilities in a wide range of applications. Wohlhauser added that the company would set up a joint development program with AUO in Taiwan to introduce new application markets.

AUO’s Chairman, KY Lee stated that the company requires Evonik assistance for material research and development and the partnership would allow both companies to bring their business relationship to the next level.
