The New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (Neda) has announced that it will install solar LED street lamps in 2,086 rural areas in Utter Pradesh as part of a rural electrification project.
To execute the project, Neda has already inked memorandum of understanding with Hyderabad and Power Technology Corporation and MIC Electronics to deliver about 9,700 solar street lamps throughout the state. The set up expenditure for each unit will be Rs. 16,830.
The LED lamps have a life span of 50,000 h, which is comparatively more than the life span of CFL lamps. The luminous intensity of the LED lamps is also comparable. About 46 districts in Utter Pradesh will get the LED solar lamps. Neda officials are anticipated to complete the installation of LED lamps by February 2011.
Apart from the solar lamp installation project, Neda has also undertaken a project to supply 4.8 kW power to 57 Ashram Paddati schools operating in the rural regions of the state. The expenditure per unit is estimated to be Rs. 9.56 lakh. The department of social welfare is monitoring the project.
The project will permit students to use a fan and two lights for up to six hours per day. Gangotri Enterprises has received the contract for this project in November 2010 and is anticipated for completion by January 2011.
