General Electric Introduces Energy-Efficient LED Light

General Electric (GE) has launched a 9 W LED light, which complies with Energy Star standards. The new light is energy-efficient and durable when compared to a normal 40 W incandescent bulb.

The 9 W Energy Smart light is an A19-design bulb and has a total life span of 25,000 h. It features a white light at 3,000K and offers a 471 lm brightness. It is free of lead or mercury content.

According to GE, the earlier versions of incandescent-shaped LED bulbs scatter light in one direction and do not provide uniform illumination. The company claimed that its Energy Smart bulb provides better dispersal of light and thus can be used for lighting applications where LED bulbs prove ineffective, such as overhead lamps and desk lamps.

The Energy Smart bulb features eight fins around its side. This novel design permits the LED bulb to scatter light more uniformly without causing heat dissipation. Minimum heat dissipation helps in extending the life of LEDs.
