BT, provider of fiber-optic broadband services, announced that it will test 1 Gbps broadband speeds as part of the future plans for broadband deployment. According to the company, the trial would take place in Kesgrave, a town in the Suffolk County. The 1 Gbps broadband services would be initiated from 2011.
The proposal would showcase the maximum potential of BT’s fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) product. The FTTP broadband service has the ability to attain 400 Mbps and 1 Gbps download speeds under ideal network conditions and customer devices. The company will be launching the FTTP services from 2011.
BT’s Director of Strategy, Liv Garfield commented that it is crucial for the company to test the speed capabilities of the fiber-optic broadband service to assure that it is completely future-proof.
The company also announced that over 20,000 properties in the counties of Kenilworth and Warwick will receive access to the fiber-optic broadband services in the near future.
