Sharp to Initiate Large-Scale Production of High-Efficient Solar Cells

Sharp will start the mass production of single crystalline solar cells at the solar cell plant located in Japan. The company previously developed the solar cells that produced high conversion efficiency.

Sharp has begun the mass production at 200 MW annual production capacity. The company will manufacture various products including solar modules and solar cells.

The solar cell utilizes Back Contact structure that avoids the necessity of connecting electrodes on the front-side. The design of the solar cell maximizes the light-receiving area of the cells’ front-side surface.

The single crystalline solar cells will be suitable for industrial and residential applications. Sharp has also developed an alignment technology, called the Alignment Sheet system that minimizes the connection resistance among the adjacent cells.
