GigOptix Introduces GX6255 MZM Driver for 40 G and 100 G Optical Networks

Provider of high-performance electro-optic and electronic components, GigOptix announced the sampling of the new Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) driver that is ideal for 100 G DP-QPSK and  40 G RZ-DQPSK transponders. The new GX6255 Surface Mounted Technology (SMT) MZM driver has the ability to output 8Vpp at a maximum of 32 Gb/s.

The driver is fully compliant with the 100G DP-QPSK and 40G RZ-DQPSK modulators. It is ideally utilized to amplify the data signals present between the transponder multiplexer and the optical MZM driver. The GX6255 driver dissipates a power of approximately 1.6 W at an output of 7.5Vpp.

GigOptix’ VP of Marketing, Padraig O'Mathuna stated that the growing demand for bandwidth is driving the network operators to upgrade from the existing 10 Gb/s links to bigger 100 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s links. He added that the company’s driver portfolio in combination with the receiver portfolio allow them to offer a wide range of 100G and 40G solutions for the customers. The receiver amplifier portfolio includes the 40 Gb/s RZ-DQPSK systems and the Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIA) for the 100G and 40G Coherent systems.
