Merit Network announced that it has chosen CommScope as an optical fiber cable vendor for the REACH-3MC broadband stimulus project. CommScope was chosen from numerous suppliers, who responded to Merit’s request for proposal (RFP) in June 2010.
Merit team's detailed review of all the obtained RFPs showed that CommScope had the ability to deliver a high-quality solution for the optical fiber cable requirements of the REACH-3MC project. The broadband stimulus project will develop 1,017 miles of sophisticated optical fiber network in the underserved and rural communities in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
Merit’s VP of Network Engineering and Operations, Bob Stovall commented that CommScope would manufacture and offer a high-quality fiber optic cable. The company’s Director of Infrastructure Architecture and Strategy, Robert Duncan stated that the fiber delivery is done through CommScope’s fleet of delivery vehicles, which feature off-loading hoists. This means that Merit does not have the necessity for forklifts or for shipping and receiving docks to accept fiber delivery.
CommScope’s Senior VP of Global Enterprise Sales, Peter Karlsson added that the company is pleased to support Merit in offering sophisticated broadband access to communities and residents in Michigan.
