Lockheed Martin, global security company, announced that the U.S. Navy has awarded a contract to develop the paveway II Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR). The U.S. Navy will use the ELGTR for the Navy operation. The three-year procurement contract includes continuous ELGTR production.
The ELGTR contract will commence in the Q3 of 2011 at the company’s Archbald, Pennsylvania operation. Globally, the ELGTR is regarded as the only live-fire training system for warfighters. In addition, it is compatible with multiple international aircraft, F-16, AV-8B and F/A-18.
The ELGTR offers economical training for the entire paveway II laser-guided weapons and maintains the aircrew expertise without exhausting the tactical inventory of the paveway II Laser Guided Bomb (LGB).
The Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds imitates the precision, flight characteristics and release envelope of the paveway II laser guided weapons. Live-fire training allows aircrews to carry out delivery strategies in a real-mission environment and to experience real weapon characteristics in existing range constraints.
