Allegro MicroSystems Rolls Out Multi-Output White LED Driver

Developer of Hall-effect sensor ICs, Allegro MicroSystems has released the A8515 fault tolerant white LED driver for LCD backlighting in industrial and consumer displays.

Fault Tolerant LED Driver

The LED driver combines a current-mode boost converter with two current sinks and internal power switch, and features sophisticated protection functions for optimized viewing.

The multi-output LED driver drives a maximum of 24 LEDs at an operating current of 120 mA, while the LED current links can be connected in parallel connection to attain LED currents at a maximum of 240 mA. In addition, a detailed fault table is listed in the datasheet to discuss the protection and performance characteristics of the driver.

The A8515 has a minimal regulation voltage of 720 mV on LED current sources, which enhances efficacy and minimizes power loss of the driver. The white LED driver incorporates a driver that acts as an optional external input disconnect switch.
