Corning Introduces Slim Glass Substrates for LCD Panel Manufacturers

Corning, a company specializing in specialty glass and ceramics, has unveiled new large size EAGLE XG Slim glass substrates for the production of LCD panels for larger applications such as large monitors and TVs. The company made the announcement at the FPD International trade show held in Makuhari Messe, Japan.

Corning has added 0.5 mm glass to the EAGLE XG Slim line’s Generations 8 and 7 glass sizes that are suitable for large monitors and television applications. The transition of thickness from 0.7 mm to 0.5 mm will offer significant benefits to minimize the thickness of TVs.

The Corning glass substrates use the eco-friendly glass, called the EAGLE XG composition, allowing the systems to be recyclable. The company manufactures the glass substrates at the plants located in Asia by using its global supply chain. In addition, the company intends to expand the line of EAGLE XG Slim products with the development of substrates measuring 0.3 mm for glass sizes, supporting portable electronic devices.
