USSI’s GroundAlert Fiber-Optic System to be Used in Latin America’s Security Project

Manufacturer of fiber-optic sensing systems, US Sensor Systems (USSI) announced that the GroundAlert fiber-optic security system has been chosen for a security project in Latin America. The multi-site security project is valued at nearly $0.6M. USSI, a subsidiary of Acorn Energy, is part of a group led by PCSC of California.

USSI’s fiber-optic security system uses highly sensitive optical fiber microphonic sensing cables. The security system is powered by light. The sensing cables are buried along the fence perimeter for identifying attempts to tunnel/dig underneath the fence.

The Chief Executive Officer of USSI, Jim Andersen stated that although the requirement for security systems is significantly increasing, the present security technology could not be upgraded to meet the rising demand because of their high installation costs. Andersen added that the optical sensor cables deliver significant maintenance and installation cost savings and do not need electrical or electronics power in the field.
