Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) has unveiled a new 4.5” OLED display at the FPD International 2010/Green Device 2010 Expo that was held in Japan. The OLED display can be bent to a 10 mm curvature radius.
The display panel has a WVGA resolution of 800x480 pixels, while the earlier version of SMD had a resolution of 480x272 pixels. The OLED display has a thickness of 240 ì. It features a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 250 cd/m². The display can exhibit nearly 16.7 million colors.
The polysilicon TFTs used in the displays were fabricated on a substrate made of polyimide. The organic EL components are of top-emission type, enabling light extraction in the TFT substrate’s opposite direction. Vapor deposition was used to apply low-molecular-weight blue, green, and red light-emitting materials.
