Plextronics and Cambrios Technologies have collaborated to develop economical and efficient material that can enhance the quality and production process of OLED-based lighting solutions. The partnership is funded by an assistance agreement formed with the DOE Solid State Lighting (SSL) program.
Cambrios develops proprietary products with the use of nanotechnology, while Plextronics is a Pittsburgh-based company specializing in organic electronics, display, lighting, and printed solar. For the OLED lighting development project, a proprietary Plexcore OC material of Plextronics will be applied on the proprietary ClearOhm material of Cambrios. The Plexcore OC material serves as a vital part of OLEDs, called the hole injection layer (HIL), while the ClearOhm material produces a transparent electrode to result into a transparent conducting hole injection (TCHI) electrode.
Plextronics’ Chief Executive Officer, Andy Hannah stated that the project optimizes two technologies to fulfill the OLED lighting roadmap of the DOE for cost and performance. He added that the project will aid in providing an economical way for OLED lighting.
Cambrios’ Chief Executive Officer and President, Dr. Michael Knapp remarked that the Plextronics HIL is widely utilized in OLED development programs by numerous companies. He continued that the company is pleased to work with Plextronics for the project.
