Samsung Unveils Ultra-Thin LCD Display at FPD International 2010

Samsung has introduced a new LCD display that will help in developing thinner smartphones, tablets and laptops.

LCD Display

The LCD panel was displayed at the FPD International 2010 Expo held in Japan.

The Samsung LCD display has a thickness of 0.44 mm and weighs only 28 g after removing the backlight. It measures 1.8 mm at its thickest position. The display showcased at the Expo featured a brightness of 250 cd/m², a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. It also has the capability to show nearly 50% of the NTSC color range.

According to Samsung, the LCD display would take approsximately two to three years to be commercialized. The company’s engineer at the FPD International 2010 Expo informed that except for using a resin substrate, the company has utilized the same manufacturing procedure to develop the LCD panel. This means factories can manufacture the ultra-thin LCD panels without costly re-tooling.
