NXP Semiconductors, provider of high-performance mixed signal solutions, announced the availability of highly flexible, fully integrated driver IC solutions for LED tail lights and headlights. The ASL1010PHN and the ASL1010NTK LED driver ICs combine major functionalities such as short circuit protection, PWM control for dimming purposes, LED fault detection, and direct LED temperature feedback. The company displayed the LED driver IC functionality at the Electronica 2010 that was held in Munich, Germany.
The ASL1010PHN/ ASL1010NTK driver ICs, by integrating the major functionalities for automotive LED lightings, provide a compact solution that needs fewer components. The driver ICs therefore deliver reliable and cost-efficient LED module designs. The NXP solution also provides versatility to cover various car output voltages, configurations, and platforms.
The LED driver ICs also have an auto buck/boost topology that enables the ICs to drive a maximum of 20 LEDs from the car battery voltage. The device also enables enhanced versatility on output voltages from 6 - 60 V. The ASL1010PHN/ ASL1010NTK driver ICs are developed using the ABCD9 technology node. ASL1010NTK’s architecture decreases the system cost and the development time for LED and Lighting Control Unit designers.
The LED driver ICs also have a temperature feedback control that controls the performance and temperature of the LEDs. The ICs have fault detection functionality to obtain feedback in case of an LED fault.
