Reggefiber Receives Loan for High-Speed Fibre-Optic Network in the Netherlands

Reggefiber, a provider of open access network, has received a EUR 285 million-bank loan for the deployment of high-speed fibre-optic network in the Netherlands. The loan, received from five commercial banks, and the European Union’s (EU) lending institutions, and the European Investment Bank, enables further deployment of advanced optical fibre broadband services.

The investment in the network, along with download and upload speeds of over 100 Mbps, meets EU’s objective to maximize the access of high-speed Internet to 50% of the entire households by the year 2020. The open network model of Reggefiber enables various service providers and telecom operators to bring multi-room HD digital TV and high-speed broadband applications to 1.1 - 1.3 million homes throughout the Netherlands by 2012.

The Financial Director of Reggefiber, Jan van Rooijen stated that the 10-year loan is vital for the company to achieve their objectives. The joint support from the European Investment Bank, RBS, ING, Friesland Bank, BNP Paribas and ABN AMRO improves the level of Fiber-to-the-home service Reggefiber could offer in the country, said Rooijen.
