UK telecom giant, BT announced that it has planned to build a fiber-optic broadband network in the Taunton County, England. BT also announced a £132 million plan to deploy broadband services in Cornwall.
The move will make Cornwall as one of the best -connected regions in the world. The company aims to bring high-speed broadband services to 80% to 90% of Cornwall properties by 2014.
The broadband deployment in the Taunton county will allow families to access various web-based services simultaneously.
Taunton Deane Borough Council’s spokesman stated that BT has planned to provide maximum download speeds of 60 Mb/s from autumn 2011. He added that BT’s investment would boost the local economy and would offer significant benefits to the residents.
BT’s Cornwall and Taunton proposals will allow about 50% of businesses and homes to access maximum speeds of 100 Mb/s.
