Moser Baer Sets Up Pilot Facility to Develop OLED Lighting Products

Moser Baer Technologies has announced that it will procure devices to establish a new pilot production plant to develop organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The company will spend $11.5 million to purchase the devices.

Universal Display, Moser Baer’s partner, has been granted a $4 million fund by the US Department of Energy. The funding has been granted to utilize the OLED technology in organic electronics, lighting and flat panel displays. The Engineering Smart System Technology and Commercialisation Centre and the College of Nanoscale Sciences will also take part in the project. The pilot unit will be established in New York.

The OLED is similar to the LED technology and follows the same kind of manufacturing procedures. However, both technologies have a different structure and generate different light intensities.

The Chief Executive Officer of Moser Baer, Dr G. Rajeswaran stated that the OLED products need latest manufacturing technologies that will be developed and used in the pilot production facility. He added that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India has awarded a grant to develop Copper Indium Gallium di-Selenide (CIGS) solar cells.
