Flydubai to Roll Out Fiber Optic-Based In-Flight Entertainment System

Flydubai will introduce a new in-flight entertainment system that could make the experience of watching movies in the sky greener and easier. Lumexis, a US company had developed the entertainment system called the fiber to the screen that is based on fiber optics.

The system utilizes fiber optics instead of copper wires to carry data to the seatback displays. This is similar to the way where conventional copper telephone lines are replaced by home cable connections. Using fiber optics in airplanes provides faster connection speeds.

The fiber to the screen weighs 50% less than conventional systems as it eliminates large zone and switching boxes under the seats. The cable is also lightweight. As a result, the system minimizes installation costs and saves fuel consumption. The in-flight entertainment system carries more data and offers additional choice for Flydubai’s customers.
