Supplier of devices for fiber-optic sensing, Micron Optics has launched the new os4400 Fiber-Optic Temperature Sensing Cable to address the increasing requirement for cost-efficient temperature sensing, for regions having limited access. The os4400 cable is suitable for applications, such as mines, bridges, and tunnels, where distributed measurements are required at particular points for long distances.
The rugged os4400 cable is developed using the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor technology. Tiny FBG-based sensors are combined in sequence in a steel toughened cable. The cable resists adverse treatment during deployment and lasts for a long time in demanding environments.
The sensing points do not require calibration, and are observable to NIST standards. The os4400 cable can function in corrosive settings and high electromagnetic fields where electrical sensors do not function. The sensor cable is completely passive, and is useful for explosive environments. The os4400 cable, when integrated with the software and instruments of Micron Optics, identifies noteworthy temperature changes in very less time.
