AMS Technologies Releases RIO Grande Laser Module

AMS Technologies has introduced a new laser module, RIO Grande, for RF, microwave photonics, high-resolution metrology, LIDAR and interferometric and acoustic sensing applications.

RIO Grande

The RIO Grande laser module integrates Rio’s External Cavity Laser (ECL) with a low-noise EDFA. The single-frequency laser device offers optical power of 0.1 to 1 W across the C-band’s eye safe regions.

The design of the laser is based on RIO’s planar technology, PLANEX. The laser design comprises a planar lightwave circuit, a waveguide with Bragg grating and a gain chip to form a laser cavity. The laser offers high reliability and stability and features low RIN, low frequency noise and phase, and a narrow spectral linewidth.

The CATV EDFA and the semiconductor-based laser maintain minimized sensitivity to acoustic and mechanical vibrations that match to endure extreme environmental conditions. In addition, the laser system reduces system heat dissipation and power consumption.
