Suntech Power Holdings and National Semiconductor have collaborated to develop a smart panel technology. National Semiconductor is a manufacturer of analog semiconductors, and Suntech is a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar panels.
The objective of the partnership is to enhance the output power of solar systems by integrating the SolarMagic power optimizer chipset of National Semiconductor into Suntech solar panels.
Previously, both the companies had entered into an agreement for Suntech to analyze the SolarMagic technology. The agreement was aimed to promote the SolarMagic technology and to develop solutions for the future. Suntech has finished its assessment, and now both the companies have moved to the development phase of the technology.
Suntech’s Senior VP, Shijun Cai stated that the smart panel technology is a significant development that would allow consumers to utilize more energy from the solar systems.
National Semiconductor’s Senior Vice President of Key Market Segments and Business Development, Michael Polacek remarked that the company is pleased to collaborate with Suntech. The association would allow the SolarMagic technology to be incorporated within a junction box to enhance the performance of solar devices, Polacek said.
