Lockheed Martin will provide 200 new Vehicle Optics Sensor Systems (VOSS) devices to the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Acquisition Center. The company has obtained $138 million from the U.S. Army for this delivery.
The Gyrocam VOSS is a sensor system and can be mast-mounted on any kind of expeditionary system or land vehicle for remote surveillance requirements. The device offers thermal and night vision sensors in a 15” gyro-stabilized gimbal.
Lockheed Martin, in addition to the 200 Gyrocam VOSS devices, will also provide units and support services to support the systems. The devices will be manufactured at the Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems plant located in Florida. The Gyrocam Systems facility has deployed over 800 Gyrocam camera solutions on vehicles all over Iraq and Afghanistan. These Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles offer Warfighters with important capabilities to carry out threat surveillance missions in adverse environments.
Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems’ General Manager, Jay Pitman stated that the Gyrocam VOSS allows fighters to recognize and engage in the fight against insurgency and threats. Pitman added that the device has maintained 99% operational readiness rate that assists the Army in its Warfighting assignment.
