Epistar, manufacturer of high-brightness LEDs, has placed an order for Veeco Instruments’ TurboDisc K465i GaN Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) systems. Epistar will utilize the MOCVD system for high-volume LED production. Veeco develops LEDs and solar panels.
The TurboDisc K465i MOCVD system has improved run-to-run repeatability and high wavelength uniformity. The system expands Veeco’s expertise in capital efficiency for LED developers. It also offers ease-of-tuning for quick process optimization on maximum wafer sizes of 8” and provides quick device recovery time after maintenance.
Epistar’s President, Dr. M.J. Jou stated that the company had qualified Veeco’s devices for production in May 2010. He added that the MOCVD systems have low cost of ownership and can be used easily.
Bill Miller, head of Veeco’s MOCVD Operations, commented that the company is delighted to support Epistar’s existing and future MOCVD needs.
