FDA Approves PinPointe FootLaser for Treating Nail Infection

PinPointe USA, a company specializing in podiatric light-based therapy, announced that the PinPointe FootLaser has obtained the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance. The PinPointe FootLaser is suitable for treating nail fungus.

A podiatrist normally performs the laser procedure where a laser beam is projected across the nail. The beam penetrates the nail bed by focusing only on the fungi and does not affect the nail and the neighboring tissue.

Treating fungal nail infection is challenging as the infection occurs within the nail. Certain patients are treated using medicated nail polish or oral medications. The other option is to remove the nail surgically.

PinPointe’s Chief Executive Officer and Founder, John Strisower stated that the objective of the company is to continually progress with the podiatric light-based therapeutic technology. He added that a single 30-minute laser treatment could be easily performed without using anesthesia.
