Perle’s New SFP Media Converters Allow Fiber to Ethernet Conversion

Supplier of sophisticated fiber to Ethernet solutions, Perle Systems has introduced a new range of SFP Media Converters that facilitates end-to-end fiber to Ethernet transformation. The SFP Media Converters’ fiber-optics port enables versatile network configurations by utilizing SFP Optical Transceivers provided by Cisco, Perle, or other developers of SFPs with MSA standards.

The SFP optical transceivers of Perle are compact media connectors, which allow one network unit, such as an SFP Media Converter, to link to different copper and fiber cable types. The transceivers, also known as mini-GBIC, offer modularity in places where fiber types, which are easily upgradeable, are needed primarily.

The SFP fiber transceiver’s status, such as temperature and voltage, can be read using the Diagnostic Management Interface (DMI), in managed systems. DMI is also known as Digital Optical Management.

Perle’s Chief Operating Officer, John Feeney stated that SFP media converters offer customers with a cost-efficient Ethernet to fiber solution using the SFPs of the customer.
