Huawei Develops New Intelligent Optical Distribution Network Prototype

Huawei, provider of telecommunication solutions, announced that it has developed an Intelligent Optical Distribution Network (iODN) prototype that provides numerous intelligence functions.

According to the company, the iODN prototype allows operators to spot and operate the target optical fibers automatically and paves the way for large fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments.

The iODN prototype was launched at the P&T / Expo Comm China 2010 event that took place in Beijing. The prototype will also be displayed at the Broadband World Forum 2010, which will take place from 26 to 28 October in Paris.

Huawei’s Director of the ODN Service Department, Wang Dexiang commented that FTTx networks are being installed on a large scale basis across the world and the ODN is gaining more recognition from operators. The iODN prototype, along with the company’s experience in end-to-end ODN delivery that includes engineering and planning, would help in large FTTH installations.
