Astronics, a company specialized in lighting and automated test systems, released its new LED Landing and Taxi lights.
The lamps provide lower power consumption and higher durability than conventional incandescent lamps.
Luminescent Systems, a subsidiary of Astronics, has developed a new technique to Landing and Taxi lighting in aerospace applications. This patent pending design of Astronics optimizes the parabolic reflector’s optical efficiency, by placing the LED inside the focal spot of reflector.
The stray light produced by the Astronics design is refocused into the reflector to increase the intensity. Only few numbers of LEDs are required to produce this intensity. Smaller numbers of LEDs produce less heat, resulting in a reliable and stable solution.
Astronics is providing the LEDs in PAR46 and PAR36 size, in various beam patterns. In addition, the lights come with an infrared output for secret operations with night vision goggles. Astronics is currently focusing on military and commercial aircraft manufacturers, to replace conventional incandescent Landing and Taxi lights using LEDs.
