Fujikura’s subsidiary AFL has acquired Verrillon, which is a provider of specialty optical fibers to the industrial, avionics, and oil and gas markets. The acquisition improves the fiber-optic solutions of AFL, with the addition of optical fiber to its product line.
The new development will strengthen AFL as a supplier of fiber-optic products. The acquisition also offers AFL access of various specialty fiber markets such as sensing and industrial. AFL produces fiber-optic components and cables in Germany, the United Kingdom, and South Carolina.
Verrillon has its production operations in North Grafton, Massachusetts. Verrillon designs and customizes specialized fibers such as rare-earth doped, polarization-maintaining, high-temperature, and hermetic fibers, for extreme environments. Verrillon will continue its operations in its existing facility in Massachusetts.
Verrillon’s Chief Executive Officer, Abdel Soufiane stated that both the companies provide complementary solutions to a wide range of markets. Soufiane added that the acquisition would enable the companies to utilize the developing markets.
