GigOptix Offers Production Samples of LX8401 DPSK TFPS Modulator

Provider of electro-optic devices for 100G and 40G optical networks, GigOptix announced that the production samples of its TFPS Mach Zehnder Modulator (MZM) are available for purchase. The samples were produced by Sanmina-SCI, a provider of Electronics Manufacturing Services, at its Chinese facility. The first product to be made available is the LX8401, which is a 40 Gb/s Differential Phase Shift Key (DPSK) TFPS modulator.

The LX8401 modulator was developed using the TFPS technology of GigOptix. The technology enables a small form factor modulator, featuring low Vpi. TFPS technology’s low Vpi decreases the power consumption by over 20% than other modulator technologies. The modulator, measuring 84 mm in length, is considerably smaller compared to the Lithium Niobate modulators. The LX8401 fits into a 300 pin transponder that has a dimension of 3.5" x 4.5".

GigOptix’ CEO, Dr. Avi Katz stated that the TFPS MZM modulators are suitable solutions to meet the requirements of network operators, who require smaller and faster bandwidth solutions. The modulator also strengthens the company’s 100G and 40G line of receivers and drivers.
