Tyco Electronics, manufacturer of electronic components, has launched a new series of direct attach fibre and copper cable assemblies. The PARALIGHT optical cable assemblies and the SFP+ copper cable assemblies provide a cost-effective option to fibre-optic cables in InfiniBand, 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel and 10 Gbit/s Ethernet applications.
The Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable interconnect solution from Tyco is a four-channel package that provides more density than conventional SFP ports. The interconnect system can support a maximum speed of 10 Gbit/s per channel and is ideal for 10 Gbit/s Ethernet and 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel applications.
The SFP+ copper cable assemblies allow data center operators and hardware OEMs to attain high port density at low cost. The SFP+ assemblies also meet the MSA specifications.
The PARALIGHT optical cable assemblies offer high data throughput interconnects. They come in maximum lengths of 100 m by utilizing 50 µm fibre. The optoelectronic circuit can be used with 8B/10B data streams.
According to Tyco, the cable assemblies can remove the need for expensive fibre patch cords and GBIC transceivers for interlinks between servers, enterprise storage units and network switches.
