OptiMedica has announced that the Catalys Precision Laser System will be displayed at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). The meeting took place in Chicago on 16, 17, and 18 October 2010.
The Catalys laser system integrates OptiMedica’s pattern scanning technology, integrated Optical Coherence Tomography imaging, and a femtosecond laser. The system substantially enhances the cataract surgery by substituting its manual steps. It incorporates an Integral Guidance system and a Liquid Optics Interface. The Internal Guidance System makes sure that the femtosecond laser pulses are sent accurately to the proposed location, while the Liquid Optics Interface optimizes the route to the patient’s eye.
Drs. Vukich, Lane, Stevens, and Talamo are members of the 12-person Cataract Advisory Board of OptiMedica. The doctors worked with the company during the development of the Catalys Precision Laser System. The company plans to unveil the laser system by 2011.
The President and CEO of OptiMedica, Mark J. Forchette stated that the results obtained with the Catalys laser system show a significant improvement in control and accuracy over the manual cataract procedure.
