Universal Display has announced performance advancements in its UniversalP2OLED phosphorescent OLED material systems for use in solution-based production techniques.
Lighting and display manufacturers are analyzing solution-based manufacturing processes as an extra measure for economical manufacturing of large-area OLED displays, as well as lighting systems. The company announced these advances at the International Meeting on Information Display, in Korea.
Universal Display’s Senior Research Scientist, Dr. Kwang Ohk Cheon announced that the performance of the P2OLED materials and technology has improved. The improvement is due to the advancement of enhanced device structures and materials with the help of the company’s small-molecular emitter systems. The performance of the new systems is nearing the performance of PHOLEDs, which are manufactured using vacuum-evaporated processes.
The enhanced red P2OLED system of Universal Display provides 15 cd/A and a lifespan of 62,000 h, while the light blue P2OLED provides 18 cd/A with a lifespan of 5,000 h. The P2OLED systems produce these results without the use of any pre-aging or burn-in techniques. Universal Display, with the optimized ink formulations development, has also showed ink-jet printed P2OLED systems that have performance comparable to systems manufactured using spin-coating.
