Tiscali and ZTE to Advance Fiber-Optic Network Services in Italy

Tiscali, a provider of Internet and telecommunication services, has signed a partnership agreement with ZTE, to foster the development of ultra-wide fiber-optic broadband services in Italy. ZTE is a supplier of telecommunication devices and network solutions. In the project’s first phase, both the companies will deploy an FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) network in Sardinia.

Both the companies will collaborate from a trade/financial and technology standpoint to assess, study and develop next-generation broadband services, which Tiscali can offer to its customers. Tiscali and ZTE will leverage the work on local gas network that is ongoing in the Cagliari region, to execute the fiber-optic broadband network in Sardinia. The local gas network covers more than 50,000 lines of Local-Loop Unbundling (LLU) coverage.

Tiscali and ZTE have designed the fiber-optic project, which will be included under the context of other licensed Italian operators. Such operators are urging the institutions and the Italian government to set-up a fiber-optic network.
