Qualcomm has showcased its new Mirasol display at the MobileFocus event held at CTIA in San Francisco. The Mirasol is a reflective display similar to the E-Ink, and combines the features of an LCD and E-Ink screen.
The Mirasol display uses ambient light to make the image viewable, as it does not have backlight. The display handles motion like an LCD. The reflective display has the ability to handle 30-frame-per-second video, and can display about 45,000 colors.
Qualcomm’s Jesee Burke stated that the color measuring is different in Mirasol than other conventional LCDs because of its reflective nature. Hence, the color depth numbers cannot be compared directly, Burke added.
