Oki Semiconductor Offers Telecom Laser for Long-Distance Transmission

Oki Semiconductor has developed the new EML OL3191M modulated laser with a wavelength band of 1.3 ìm. The modulated laser enables long-distance transmission due to the low chromatic dispersion exhibited in the optical fiber at 1.3 ìm wavelength.

The EML OL3191M laser is placed with a drive IC in the same package. The laser is XLMD-MSA-compliant, and delivers a high-speed operation of 43 Gbit/s, allowing transmission of up to 10 km distance.

The OL3191M delivers a better waveform even after a transmission of 10 km. The EML and the high-speed InP HEMT’s driver IC are mounted within the same package of the OL3191M laser. This construction allows reducing the number of components, resulting in a compact device.

Oki Semiconductor will continue to provide efficient and advanced optical components for the developing 40 Gbit/s optical communication industry, by using benefits, such as minimal power consumption and high speed, offered by its products.
