Manufacturer of wireless and wired connectivity solutions, L-com has announced its new Bend Insensitive (BI) bulk fiber-optic cable and assemblies. The optical solution solves the limitations of the fiber-bend sensitivity.
The BI fiber cable is suitable for data centers, or places where long-term flexing and bending of cable is needed, as it prevents issues associated with performance. Comparatively, the standard fiber cable does not deliver performance at sharp angles or when it is flexed often.
The BI bulk cable is available as 6- or 12-count breakout, duplex, and simplex, while cables are available off-the-shelf as singlemode duplex and simplex with LC connectors. L-com is capable of producing fiber cables in multiple formulations according to the needs of customers.
The Product Manager of Fiber Optics at L-com, Steve Smith stated that fiber-optic technology provides data durability and blinding speed. The physical limitations of the technology had prevented it from being utilized in high-flex applications. However, consumers can now obtain an efficient and durable fiber cable, Smith said.
