Global LCD TV Street Prices to Fall in Q4 2010

DisplaySearch has published a new market report, titled ‘Quarterly Advanced Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report’. The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the global TV market.

LCD TV

According to the report, the total shipment of televisions in the year 2010 will touch 243 million units, which is a 16% rise from 2009. The global LCD TV shipments will grow from 145 million units in 2009 to an estimated 188 million units, with the tremendous growth in Europe and Japan. Meanwhile, developing markets like China counterbalances the small growth occurring in North America.

LCD is the main TV technology across the globe, accounting for a minimum of 50% of the entire TV shipments in each region. LCD TV street prices will also drop in the fourth quarter of 2010, particularly for LED-backlit LCD televisions, due to oversupply of LCD panels. This oversupply of panels resulted in the fall of panel costs in the third quarter of 2010.

LED LCD TVs are expected to account for a major portion of the LCD TV shipments in the year 2011. The plasma TV shipments will reach to an expected 18 million units in the year 2010.
