When the work is completed, nearly 2.3 million properties in London will have access to the fiber-optic cable broadband services, which provide maximum download speeds of 40 Mb/s. BT informed that the speeds can be increased to 60 MB/s in future. BT will next upgrade infrastructure to provide services to over 157,000 properties in Birmingham.

BT Openreach’s Managing Director of next-generation access, David Campbell stated that the company has planned to provide broadband services to over four million properties throughout UK by the year end. The broadband services would help in supporting a low carbon economy, and generate large benefits economically for the UK.
