GreenLight HPS Laser Console Treats Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

American Medical Systems has announced that public hospitals, located in Queensland and Victoria, have acquired eight of its GreenLight HPS laser modules. The laser technology will help in treating patients suffering from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a non-cancerous swelling of the prostrate. The GreenLight laser module was first introduced in 2008 at a public hospital in Victoria.

GreenLight integrates the effectiveness of conventional invasive surgical method known as the Transurethral Resection of the Prostate. The procedure has minimum side effects and reduces hospital stays. Patients can return to non-strenuous, normal activities within a few days.

The Victorian Department of Health will deploy the GreenLight laser modules in the Monash Medical Centre and the Casey Hospital. The Australian government has positioned the lasers at the St. Vincent's Public Hospital, The Geelong Hospital, and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, located in Melbourne.

Men, who undergo the laser treatment, get instant relief from the urinary symptoms associated with BPH. The GreenLight laser treatment has been proven safe and effective in studies conducted at various medical institutions. The laser module has treated approximately 500,000 patients.
