Aurora to Install Fiber-Optic Network from Dublin to Ireland

Provider of dark fiber services, Aurora Telecom will install a high-speed fiber-optic network between the west of Ireland and Dublin. The company, a division of the Bord Gáis Networks, stated that other corporate organizations and telecommunication companies will have access to the fiber-optic network.

The network installation will enable companies to have own fiber-optic network by offering fiber to every company. Owning a fiber-optic network is known as dark fiber. Aurora mentioned that dark fiber is crucial for companies, because it enables them to efficiently manage their telecom networks, allowing them to decrease costs. Aurora is deploying fiber-optic cable measuring over 330 km along the Bord Gáis' gas pipeline path to the West. The path includes Ennis, Mullingar, Athlone, and Galway.

The Chief Executive Officer of Bord Gáis, John Mullins stated that the fiber-optic installation is crucial for upgrading the digital based services in the country. He added that the installation supports Dublin Government’s vision of having a Smart Economy.
