Universal Display and Armstrong World Industries have demonstrated a white phosphorescent OLED lighting solution to the U.S. Department of Energy. The demonstration is in connection with the completion of the $1.9 million, Solid State Lighting Product Program. The OLED lighting solution demonstration is crucial for commercializing low-cost, efficient lighting systems for various commercial applications.
The lighting system, developed by Universal Display, is cost-efficient and energy-efficient. The luminaire, when integrated into the TechZone ceiling system of Armstrong, easily snaps into the modular structure of Armstrong, to deliver a pleasing and utilitarian functionality. Each luminaire consists of four PHOLED lamps, each measuring 15 x 15 cm.
The PHOLED luminaire utilized in the TechZone ceiling system has dimension of about 15 x 60 cm. Each lamp present in the luminaire contains a mounting frame, an outcoupling enhancement lens, and a PHOLED lighting panel. The panel utilizes the UniversalPHOLED technology and materials to deliver 58 lm/W.
Universal Display’s President and CEO, Steven V. Abramson stated that the company is pleased to have played a vital role in demonstrating the OLED lighting capability for commercial applications. He added that the potentiality to easily snap the PHOLED luminaires into the TechZone ceiling system would facilitate energy-effective, functional lighting.
