Banner Engineering, a manufacturer of vision, ultrasonic and photoelectric sensors, has unveiled a new AG4 Safety Laser Scanner. The laser scanner is an optical safety unit that utilizes infrared light pulses to measure and locate the objects’ position in the field of view.
The AG4 laser scanner protects mobile and stationary systems present in a user designated region. It is suitable for safeguarding applications where a three or two piece light screen does not work.
The AG4 laser scanner can be easily installed and has easy-to-use software. It has five LED diagnostic displays that show the diagnostics and system status of the instruments without connecting to a computer. Eight warning and protective field pairs are configured by utilizing a computer. The configurable response time of the scanner ranges from 80 ms to 640 ms. The AG4 laser scanner has a RS-422 and RS-232 interface connection. It has two solid-state auxiliary outputs and two OSSD safety outputs. System meets all requirements for Type 3 per IEC 61496-1/-2, Category 3 PLd per EN ISO 13849-1, and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 per IEC 61508.
The AG4 scanner works on the diffuse reflection principle. When the warning and protection fields are set up to match the work area shape, objects or persons who enter the protected area will be identified and a stop signal will be produced. The warning field has a maximum range of 15 m with a 150 mm resolution, while the protection field ranges from 30 mm to 150 mm with a maximum range of 6.25 m. The AG4, with a 0.36° lateral resolution, identifies objects in a zone up to a maximum of 190° from a fixed position.
