STMicroelectronics Announces New Power-Supply ICs for AMOLED Displays

STMicroelectronics has released its new power-supply IC for powering the Super AMOLED and AMOLED displays. The STOD03A offers negative and positive supply voltages from a single chip.

STOD03A

The AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic LED) technology generates vibrant and sharp images for digital-still cameras, 3G smartphones and other mobile multimedia devices. The multimedia devices require no backlighting and provide many benefits than active-matrix LCDs, with respect to the low profile and power saving aspects.

The STOD03A delivers a maximum efficiency of 85%, offers a long battery life, and utilizes synchronous operation for the voltage outputs. The power-supply IC comprises a true shutdown mode that draws less than 1µA activated over the enable pin (EN). The automatic pulse-skipping operation of the STOD03A enables minimal power utilization at light loads. The IC uses the Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technology in the advanced BCD fabrication process. This BCD fabrication process allows the construction of digital, analog and the high-power circuitry on a same chip.
