Cantv to Expand Fiber-Optic Network in Southern Venezuela

A telecommunication company in Venezuela, Cantv plans to expand the fiber-optic network in Southern Venezuela. The company will extend the fiber-optic network by approximately 6,000 km. The network expansion will be completed in three stages, and project is funded by the Universal Service Fund.

Cantv’s Executive Vice-President, Nicolas Solorzano stated that the network extension would be undertaken in the states of the Amazonas, Bolivar, and Apure. The fiber-optic network extension would allow the customers of the company to access video and voice services, high-speed data transmission, and broadband connections.

Solorzano commented that the project is in the first phase that incorporates in-depth engineering studies, network installation deals, and project roll-out. He added that the company expects to initiate the infrastructure installation in 2011, and finish it by 2012.
