ViaSat Ships DSP and FEC Cores for 40G and 100G Optical Transport Systems

ViaSat, manufacturer of digital communication products, has begun the shipment of the digital signal processing (DSP) and the forward error correction (FEC) cores for 100 and 40 G optical transport systems. ViaSat will display the products at the European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC). The event will take place in Italy from 20 September 2010.

The company’s turbo product code with soft-decision coding enhances performance in metro, long haul and high data rate applications by offering a maximum net electrical coding gain of 11.4 dB. The algorithm of the turbo product code core is optimized for 100 and 40 Gbps data rates. The algorithm can also be increased to more than 100 Gbps for higher order modulations.

The DSP cores are utilized to compensate for fiber-optic channel damages. The DSP cores can also be customized for individual channel models. Both DSP and FEC cores are developed for 65 or 40 nm ASIC processes, and consume less power. The FEC IP and the DSP cores are available for numerous modulation formats and data rates.
