Bandwidth and fiber-optic service provider, Lightower Fiber Networks, announced that it has acquired a New York-based company, Lexent Metro Connect. Lexent supplies customized dark fiber networks.
The acquisition will enable Lightower to expand its customer base and existing fiber footprint in the New York City area. The acquisition will also allow Lightower to include more than 150 fiber-optic route miles to its network.
The integration of the two networks will enable Lightower to operate a next-generation fiber network, which provides a comprehensive solution of high-bandwidth services using back-to-back fiber connectivity. The integrated network enhances Lightower’s fiber access in the New York region, including New Jersey, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Lightower’s comprehensive suite of services such as collocation, SONET, Internet access, WDM wavelengths, dark fiber and Ethernet will benefit Lexant’s customers. Lightower’s existing network includes more than 4,600 fiber route miles across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of Lightower, Rob Shanahan stated that there is a growing demand for the fiber-based networking solutions across the New York City area. He added that the Lexant’s network has highest density and provides numerous fiber routes optimized for low-latency solutions.
