SDN Communications, provider of fiber optic network solutions for internet, phone systems and network surveillance, has announced a new $25 million fiber optic project in Vermillion. The federal grant will provide broadband access across the South Dakota region.
Over the next two years, the fiber optic project will provide high-speed internet access to 75 communities in the region. The statewide construction of the optical network will benefit more than 300 government facilities, schools and hospitals.
Organizers expect that high-speed network connectivity will enhance the marketability of the state. Approximately 359-miles of fiber optic cable will be laid out across the state. The project is expected to be concluded by the end of 2012.
